Meet the Trainer
John Gagnon
Continuous learner who found many things 'later in life'! In short, "continuous learning" or "continuing education" probably best describes my journey in life. For most of my life, that wasn't formal education due to the cost. But I was able to eventually finish my formal education later in my career which greatly helped my opportunities. "Fitness" was also a concept that escaped me for most of my life for varying reasons but later in life, I was finally able to address exercise after a joint replacement allowed me to move without excruciating pain. I joined a local gym, attended a bootcamp, and began my journey to achieving a level of fitness in my older years that escaped me in my youth.
After months of taking high intensity interval fitness classes, (HIIT), and losing eighty-five pounds, I wanted to know the "why's" and how's" of the various exercise movements that I was performing. I decided to immerse myself in personal training, anatomy, and exercise courses, books, videos, and anything that I could study. At first, this was merely for personal growth as my studies began at the beginning of the COVID epidemic, giving me much more time to dedicate to learning. I purchased the American Council on Exercise Personal Training study materials and after a year of intense reading and studying I decided to challenge myself with their certification exam to 'test' my new knowledge, which I easily passed.
That only served to spur an intense desire to continue my learning journey which resulted in several more fitness certifications and specializations through ACE as well as the Functional Aging Institute. After several certifications and now having a firm grasp on developing exercise programming, I want to share my personal training knowledge and skills to help others in their journeys toward a healthier lifestyle. Being in my early sixties, I find that I have a desire to help mature clients find their inner desire to achieve a healthier, more active and fit future as they approach, or experience retirement. What is retirement if you aren't fit and healthy to enjoy it? This is my calling as I approach my own retirement years. I want to remain active, engaged, and have purpose. What better purpose than to help others find, or develop, better fitness habits along their life journey.
