JOY is a beautiful sanctuary of deepening your relationship to Yoga and Buddhism.
I'm Jennifer, the creator, primary teacher, and owner of JOY. I look forward to meeting you in person but this will do for now!
Let's see, this journey began way back in 1979 when I was born I suppose but really infinitely before! As a small child I always felt drawn to deeper meaning. Teaching and sharing was engrained in my soul.
My life has allowed me to experience many variations of grief and loss that I believe are meant to cultivate compassion in order to deepen joy within. Hence the birth of JOY in 2014.
That was preceded by a traditional educational path of a 4 year college and a degree in Interior Design and the birth of our sister business Alter - Interior Design, Painting, and Construction. The wonderful world of art and design helped to solidify the notion that the foundation of any subject is a very important jumping off point. There have been pioneers that deserve to be learned from and listened to. This goes for Yoga and Buddhism too!
Interior Design turned me on to thinking holistically and led me to a graduate and doctoral degree in Holistic Wellness and Naturopathy. The school closed as I came upon my dissertation process for my doctorate and I didn't transfer credits and complete it because I didn't feel it was necessary as I had found Buddhism and was working to thin out my ego.
By this time I had been practicing yoga and buddhism for about 5 or 6 years and was ready to embark on yoga teacher training. I found a wonderful teacher and began my 14 month study. My passion for yoga was fully ignited then! I had a vision for an online and self-paced program way back in 2012 and brought it life in 2014.
I have been leading yoga teacher trainings since!
The beautiful thread of the Blue form of Buddha has been hanging out in the background of my life for over 20 years. I have explored zen buddhism and tibetan buddhism and am currently immersed in a 300 hour Vajra Yoga training with Michelle Loew and the magical Tenzin Robert Thurman that has formally introduced me to the Blue Buddha. I'm sharing in studio as I learn.
Oh, I am also a massage therapist and Reiki Master (reiki master 2003 / Massage Therapist 2012) but no longer see clients after a very long run. I like to work with groups and teach what I know.
There's a lot more and if you're interested you can listen / watch on the Yoga for JOY Youtube Channel @journeyomyoga, or in studio with bits and pieces in classes, workshops and gatherings.
I have been highly influenced and inspired by one of my greatest teachers Baba Ram Dass and his Guru, turned my Guru Neem Karoli Baba. I am forever grateful to have found his teachings in 2012. This led me to graciously explore Hawaii, India, and New Mexico in ways that have impacted my heart in such a way, words can't touch.
I have 3 beautiful children and a magnificent husband who I currently co-create JOY with, Joshua.
I truly believe that if you have found this path it for the reason to support each other to a more enlightened state. A state that is natural and joyful. There is a path mapped out for us with many trails that all lead to the same place. I look forward to walking it with you.
